Just a tip for anyone traveling to Australia - if you're looking for free WiFi, McDonald's (or McCafe's) has it!
We also made good use of the free internet at public libraries in Australia, but found that the connections there were slower, had time limits, or that we had to wait for a computer.
The hostels that we are staying at usually has internet access (via Global Gossip), but charge anywhere from AUS$4-$6 per hour.
