I found it really salty, definitely an acquired taste. But the Australians love it – Amy, our crew from the Whitsunday sailing adventure, told me how to eat it correctly for breakfast: you typically spread a layer of butter on a slice of bread, then a thin layer of vegemite on it. Sometimes you sprinkle a little sugar.
Check out the wikipedia on Vegemite for its interesting history.

The Australian counselors at my sleep-away camp used to hide Vegemite in the rafters of the dining hall. They pulled it out every morning to put on toast, and introduced all the little campers to it! In New Zealand they eat Marmite, which is similar but with a slightly different zing to it. Fun to follow you guys on all the adventures!
